Terms & Conditions

1. Introduction and Acceptance

Welcome to After OCR ("we," "us," "our"). By accessing our website (https://www.afterocr.com/) and engaging our services for digitization, transcription, and data structuring, you ("the Client," "the User") agree to be legally bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree with any of these terms, please do not use our services.

2. Service Description

After OCR provides specialized services primarily for researchers and academics, including:

  • Digital image and scan enhancement.

  • Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

  • Meticulous human verification and text correction.

  • Custom data structuring (CSV, XML, JSON, etc.).

Final deliverables and file formats will be specified in the approved proposal or quote for each project.

3. Intellectual Property of Documents (Your Research)

We acknowledge the sensitivity and importance of your work.

  • Client Ownership: You retain all intellectual property rights, copyrights, and ownership of the original documents you submit to us and the resulting transcribed data. After OCR claims no ownership over your research or content.

  • Limited License: You grant us a temporary, non-exclusive, worldwide license solely to use, reproduce, and process your documents for the purpose of fulfilling the contracted service.

4. User Responsibility

You warrant that:

  • You have the legal right or necessary authorization to digitize and process the documents you submit.

  • The documents do not contain illegal or threatening material, nor do they violate the intellectual property rights of third parties.

  • You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any third-party claims related to the content of your documents.

5. Confidentiality and Security

Given that our process includes Meticulous Human Verification:

  • Commitment: We are committed to maintaining the strict confidentiality of all documents received.

  • Personnel: All our staff and collaborators with access to data have signed binding Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).

  • Non-Disclosure: We will not share, publish, or use your data for purposes other than processing, except as required by law.

6. Payments, Fees, and Refunds

  • Quotes: As this is a bespoke service, pricing is based on volume and complexity. Quotes are valid for [30] days.

  • Payments: A deposit of [50]% (or your preferred percentage) is required to commence work. The remaining balance is due upon delivery of final files or agreed milestones.

  • Refund Policy: Once transcription/verification work has commenced, full refunds are not offered due to the labor-intensive nature of the service. If you are unsatisfied with the quality, we will apply our revision policy (Section 7).

7. Accuracy Guarantee and Revisions

  • Nature of Service: While we strive for maximum accuracy, the recognition of damaged or illegible historical texts may present challenges.

  • Acceptance Period: The Client has a period of [14] calendar days following delivery to review the files.

  • Corrections: Within this period, we will correct any transcription errors attributable to our process at no additional cost. After this period, the work will be considered accepted and final.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, After OCR shall not be liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages (including data loss, research interruption, or loss of profits).

  • Errors in academic publications or research conclusions derived from the interpretation of transcribed data. It is the researcher's final responsibility to verify primary sources.

  • Our total liability is limited to the amount paid by the Client for the specific service.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we will permanently delete your original files and processed results from our servers [30] days after project completion to ensure your security.

10. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of [Your Country/State]. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in said location.
